Sigma updates Photo Pro software
Sigma has released an update to its Photo Pro image-editing software. Version 3.5.2 for Windows and v3.3 for Mac claim to improve processing of highlight areas in RAW images and now offer the ‘ProPhoto RGB’ color space. Exposure warning is also displayed for RGB channels in the histogram in the Windows version.

Hasselblad unveils CFV-39 digital back
Hasselblad has announced the CFV-39 digital back to be used in conjunction with its V series of camera bodies. Featuring a 39 megapixel sensor, it offers two capture formats: 4:3 and square (at 29MP). It allows tethered shooting and offers a capture rate of 0.7fps. The bundled image processing software features digital lens correction for Carl Zeiss lenses that corrects distortion, lateral chromatic aberration and vignetting.

New company to develop future Nikon firmware
Firmware development for all Nikon digital cameras and interchangeable lenses will now be undertaken by a new company named Nikon Imaging Systems. The new company is a joint venture between Fujitsu Broad Solution & Consulting Inc. and Nikon Systems, a subsidiary of Nikon Corporation. The initial investment will be around $1m and the company will employ 100 people.

Olympus updates Master and Studio software
Olympus has released an update to its Master and Studio image-editing software. Version 2.2 of the Master and v2.3 of Studio enable users to apply Art Filter effects to RAW files, rather than having to choose them as you shoot. It also extends RAW support to the E-P1 and now includes a video editor to edit that camera’s HD videos.

iPhone 3.0! iPhone 3G S! iPhone ZOMG!
Apple and AT&T are disjointedly wheeling out the updates to the iPhone’s software and hardware.
Just as the eagerly-awaited iPhone 3.0 software update became available, AT&T made an announcement that some subscribers’ upgrade eligibility would be bumped up just in time for the iPhone 3G S launch this Friday.

Apple May Charge for App Double-Dipping
With the upcoming release of iPhone 3.0 software, the handset’s users may not be able to redownload purchased apps over the air for free. Instead, they’ll need to hook up the iPhone to their computers. Is Apple merely closing a loophole that allowed users to snag free apps, or do the new rules foreshadow changes in the sort of offerings iTunes will soon roll out?
June 1 doesn’t just herald the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. The winds of gossip and speculation regarding Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL)
are already swirling in anticipation of next week’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and the latest squall line focuses on those beta-testing the new iPhone 3.0 operating system.
Several blogs and tech Web sites are reporting no more free lunches of iPhone apps already paid for — at least not unless you physically plug the phone back into your computer. When trying to load a previously purchased app, testers of the new OS report this dialogue box pop-up: “You’ve already purchased this. You can redownload it for free on your computer or tap Buy to buy it again.”

Panasonic announces firmware update for DMC-LX3
Panasonic has announced a firmware update for its Lumix DMC-LX3 digital compact camera. Version 1.3 improves auto white balance and general performance of the camera. It also rectifies minor operational issues. The latest version will be made available for download on the 1 June, 2009.

Olympus updates firmware for four Zuiko lenses
Olympus has announced firmware updates for four of its lenses. The Zuiko Digital ED 8mm F3.5 Fisheye, ED 18-180mm F3.5-6.3, ED 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 and ED 90-250mm F2.8 are all modified to improve peformance when sequential shooting on the E-3 and E-30 DSLRs in Continous AF mode.

Ricoh updates firmware for CX1 compact camera
Ricoh has posted a firmware update for the CMOS-based CX1 digital compact camera. Firmware Version 1.19 rectifies the problem where the camera would shut down without retracting the lens when the battery is depleted. The update closely follows the recent CX1 firmware update (v1.16) which rectified minor operational issues.
Ricoh has also developed a promotional website demonstrating the features and benefits of the CX1.

Another Ricoh GR DIGITAL II firmware upgrade now available
On April 22 the fourth function-enhancing firmware update for Ricoh’s GR DIGITAL II, a high-resolution compact digital camera, was released.
The function-enhancing firmware and instructions for using these functions can be downloaded free of charge from the Ricoh website.

Canon updates firmware for EOS 50D, 450D & 1000D
Canon has released firmware updates for its 50D, 450D and 1000D digital SLRs. Firmware versions 1.0.6, 1.1.0 and 1.0.5 for EOS 50D, Rebel XSi (450D) and Rebel XS (1000D) respectively, support the AF assist beam feature of Canon’s latest Speedlight 270 EX flashgun. Additionally, the 50D update rectifies other issues including vertical banding noise.

Ricoh releases firmware update for GR Digital II camera
Ricoh has released a firmware update for the GR Digital II compact camera. Version 2.30 includes manual flash control as well as the ability to to save white balance compensation values under ‘my settings’. A new feature, ‘Today’s Shots’ displays the number of images recorded on a particular date when the power is turned off. The update follows the recent firmware update (v1.16) for the CMOS-based CX1 which rectifies a few minor issues.

Pentax posts firmware update for K20D DSLR
Pentax has released a firmware update for its K20D digital SLR. Version 1.03 improves operation of the Shake Reduction (SR) function of the camera. K20D users can download and install the latest firmware from the Pentax website.
